Manual visual inspection is a quality control method where a person examines each part by eye and judges whether it passes. It works well at low volume and with obvious defects. It becomes unreliable as volume, speed and defect subtlety increase, because human attention does not scale the way a production line does.

Inspectors are hard to hire or retain for this specific task
Manual visual inspection is repetitive, requires sustained close attention, and offers little variety. Turnover on inspection roles is often higher than on the rest of the line, which means retraining time and a constantly resetting learning curve for the people doing the most safety-critical check in the process.
You are scaling to a second shift or a second line
A quality process that works with one trusted, experienced inspector on a single shift often breaks when it needs to be replicated across a second or third shift, or a second line, because the new inspectors do not have the same years of pattern recognition built up. A simple way to check where you stand
Compare your customer return or rework rate against your internal inspection pass rate for the same period. If internal inspection is passing parts that customers are rejecting, or if reject rates swing noticeably between shifts for no process reason, that gap is a more reliable signal than anyone's intuition about whether inspection is "good enough."
