Surface Defect Detection for Die Cast Components

Die cast component inspection is a surface defect detection application that checks aluminium and zinc die cast parts for surface cracks, porosity breakout and cold shuts, using the same imaging approach TARKO applies to machined metal parts.

The problem

Die cast parts can carry internal porosity that breaks out at the surface, cold shuts where two flows of metal did not fully fuse, and surface cracks from the casting or trimming process. These defects can be small, low contrast, and easy to miss under manual inspection, particularly on parts with complex geometry.

How it works

TARKO's software analyzes images of the part's cast surfaces and checks for the crack, porosity and cold shut patterns it has been trained to recognize on the customer's own parts. The detection method itself is proprietary and not published.

The system is built to run inference locally, without depending on a cloud connection to make a pass or fail decision.
